“And I will put my spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations”. Ezekiel 37:27 NLT

In our previous article, we learnt about our initial fiery passion for God and how we fail in proving what we felt before. This God we yearn to love is the only one capable of turning impossibilities into possibilities and He alone works in us both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Therefore, we cannot please God without attuning ourselves to God’s will and ways.

Peter was earnestly eager to prove his love for the Lord Jesus but he failed. We are indeed nothing without God but as He is for us, no one can go against us and there’s nothing we cannot achieve. Despite Peter’s persistence, he evidently denied the Messiah three times before the rooster crowed. At that time and according to the Lord’s will, Peter had no role in the salvation of humanity.

Servant Girl: You also were with Jesus of Galilee.

Peter: I do not know what you are saying.

Another girl: This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

Peter: I do not know the man.

Bystanders: Surely you are also one of them, for your speech betrays you.

Peter: I do not know the man!

Immediately, a rooster crowed (Matthew 26:69-74). NKJV. Peter was hopeless because he was cautioned beforehand. I would feel same too had it been me. He would have fled if he knew that would happen. He simply should have paid heed to Christ’s caution. He was denied rescuing the Messiah, Moses was denied stepping foot on the Promised Land, David was not permitted to build the temple and so on. Although they were limited, these great men of God did great works according to the roles and strength given them (2 Corinthians 2:11).

If you earnestly want to go back to your first love with a burning heart desire, then you need to go back to the truth – the word of God. The word of God is a lamp onto your feet and light onto your path and nurtures you for the expected end. After resurrection, the Lord showed Peter how he could express his love per the Spirit’s will and Peter’s capacity:

“Then feed my lambs”, “Take care of my sheep”, “Then feed my sheep”… (John 21:15-17) NLT.

3 three times he was asked to redeem himself and the lord gave him three tasks. Now it’s up to Peter to show love and he could only do that by obeying the Lord. You cannot please the Lord without faith and trust. For as you lean on Him, hear him speak and walk in His ways, would you be able to do that which He has willed in you to do and please Him.

It’s not about the fiery passion or the forbearing pain but your total submission to God-

Obedience to God is better than any sacrifice you can ever make to God.

As always, Jesus loves you.
